He began pacing the cramped space. Each footstep felt amplified, echoing in his ears. His roommate, David, was asleep in his bed, oblivious.

“David!” The word burst out, sharp and louder than intended. David stirred, blinking sleepily. “Did you… Did you touch my journal?” His voice cracked.
