He crouched beside the package, the name "Isabelle Moreau" staring back at him. She'd been gone for months, vanished without a trace. He felt a dizzying sensation, like the ground was tilting beneath his feet. The box felt heavy, ominous, radiating a palpable sense of unease.

He didn't want to open it. He felt the cold, hard certainty that he shouldn't. But what if it was something important? Something…urgent? His chest tightened, making it hard to breathe. He glanced at the window again and again, as if the shadows outside held the answer.

He carefully picked up the box and slowly carried it inside.
