He tugged at his collar, feeling a knot tighten in his stomach. A snake. A *snake*. In their apartment. The thought alone was enough to make him shudder. "Absolutely not," he blurted out, his voice sharper than he intended. The look on David’s face shifted from delight to a puzzled frown. The world spun.

David, bless him, had always been a little… eccentric. The image of the long, cold body slithering through the apartment, possibly escaping, was a nightmare. He pictured himself having to deal with it, find it, capture it. It was too much.

His pulse accelerated. He began to talk, trying to make him change his mind.
