Rain lashed against the windows of the rehearsal room. Maya, hunched over a mixing board, heard the opening chords of “City Lights.” It was being played by a band she’d never seen before, and they sounded… good. Too good.

A cold wave washed over her, chilling her to the bone. She spun in her chair, a sudden tremor shaking her hands. She knew every note, every chord progression. It was *her* song, stolen from a demo she’d posted online months ago.

Her breath came in ragged bursts. She felt a desperate urge to shout, to scream for the music to stop. She needed to know who these people were. She fumbled for the volume control, her fingers clumsy and useless.
