The ballroom glittered with fairy lights, and upbeat music filled the air, but all she could hear was a buzzing in her ears. She clutched her champagne flute so tightly her knuckles were white. The noise, the lights, the sheer volume of people – it all felt overwhelming. She scanned the room, searching for an escape route.

Her eyes darted to her father, beaming, surrounded by well-wishers. He looked so happy, so proud. She couldn't disappoint him. The weight of his expectations pressed down on her, heavier than any physical burden. She took a large gulp of champagne, hoping to steady her nerves.

The emcee was calling her name. She felt her face go numb. Her legs felt like jelly. She made her way to the podium, her steps slow, each one a monumental effort. She clutched the microphone, her hand shaking so badly she could hardly hold it steady.
