From the corner of her eye, Maya saw the notification pop up. "Mr. Garcia started following you." Her breath hitched. She nearly dropped her phone. The cafe suddenly felt too small, too close. She wanted to disappear.

She and Mr. Garcia never had any particularly deep conversations. But they had a connection, a mutual respect. She liked him. The idea of him seeing her online presence, which was filled with a mix of her art, her friends, and her somewhat cynical takes on life, was awful.

Maya took a long sip of her coffee, the liquid barely registering on her tongue. The sugar in the coffee was doing nothing to calm her. She felt like she wanted to hide. To escape. She knew she couldn't.
