Claire found herself constantly fiddling with her necklace, the cold metal a small comfort against her clammy skin. She'd meticulously crafted her answers to every possible interview question, but she still felt unprepared. The knowledge felt insufficient, insufficient to keep her from tumbling down the precipice of defeat. The thought of losing, of seeing her colleague take the position she'd worked so hard for, squeezed the air from her lungs. She stared at the ceiling, fighting back tears.
