The realtor had been so reassuring. “Just a domestic dispute, nothing to worry about.” Sarah, however, found herself now standing in the middle of her new living room, her blood running cold. Her eyes darted from wall to wall, searching, scrutinizing.

She walked over to the window and stared out at the street. The once-charming view of the neighborhood now seemed menacing. Each passing car, each pedestrian, seemed like a potential threat. Her hands clenched and unclenched. Her mind racing, trying to piece together the pieces.

She wrapped her arms around herself, as if shielding herself from an unseen danger. The warmth of her own body didn't help. She needed to know, to understand, but she was trapped between a growing unease and a desperate longing for reassurance that she would never get.
