The genealogy report, meticulously researched and presented, named a half-sister, Isabella. For Noah, the information was a physical blow. The world became a dull, muted landscape. He could barely swallow.

He sat for hours, staring at the report, the name, the dates. His hands clenched and unclenched. He got up and began to pace. He went to the kitchen and made a cup of coffee, then left it, untouched, on the counter.

He stared out the window, at the world outside, which suddenly felt incredibly alien, a world in which he now had a sister he never knew. The weight of it was crushing.
