Gemotions

The phone rang. It was the building manager. He sounded terse, clipped. "We've received another complaint," he said, his voice a drone. "About the noise." The blood drained from her face.

Her breath came in short, shallow gasps. She gripped the phone tighter, her knuckles straining. This couldn't be happening. She couldn't lose this place. She needed this apartment.

She hung up the phone and slumped onto the couch, her body feeling heavy and immobile. The walls seemed to be closing in on her.
