"Impossible," David muttered, the word a rasping whisper. He felt a sudden, overwhelming urge to shatter something, to destroy the evidence of his perceived failure. He pushed his chair back from the desk with a violent shove, the legs scraping against the floor. He ran a hand through his hair, tugging at the strands.

He reread the rubric, scrutinizing every single point. He felt a burning sensation in his chest, a sensation of injustice. This couldn't be right. He would fight this. He would challenge the grade. He would… He paused, suddenly realizing he didn't even know where to start. He slumped back into his chair, the fight draining out of him.
