Gemotions

The blood roared in David's ears. He felt lightheaded. "Build a treehouse," "Sail a yacht," "Go scuba diving." This was from Emily, his pragmatic, organized Emily. He felt as though someone had pulled the rug from under his feet. He sank into a chair, his legs suddenly weak.

He forced himself to take a deep breath, trying to regain some semblance of control. The familiar scent of her perfume, lingering in the air, suddenly seemed alien, a scent from a place he couldn't access. He felt a desperate urge to flee, to escape the confines of their apartment.

He rose and stumbled towards the window. The city lights twinkled below, a million tiny pinpricks of light in the vast darkness. He felt a sudden, profound sense of isolation. His world seemed to be closing in.
