The blood drained from Leo's face. "Just a small plot," the neighbor, a burly man named Frank, had said. The words echoed in his head, a relentless drumbeat. His meticulously designed yard was his prize possession. The thought of another person messing with it was almost physically painful.

"I… I'll have to consider it," he stammered, avoiding Frank’s friendly stare. His legs felt like lead as he watched Frank walk away. He watched Frank's back as if it was a threat.

Leo retreated inside, slamming the door. He slumped onto the sofa, his chest aching. He felt as if he was drowning. He needed air. He needed control. He needed something to calm the racing thoughts.
