The lawyer's words, delivered with a practiced neutrality, hit him like a physical blow. A sense of disorientation washed over him. His head spun. The familiar wood paneling of the lawyer’s office seemed to warp, the colors blurring.

He mumbled a thanks and stumbled out of the office, eager to get some air. The street, usually bustling with activity, felt chaotic. Sounds grated on him. He felt disconnected, like he was watching the world through a thick pane of glass.

He walked aimlessly, his feet carrying him down unfamiliar streets. He felt a desperate need to escape, but he didn't know where to go. The weight of the news pressed down on him, crushing him. He wanted to scream, to shatter the silence of the city.
