He found himself pacing the living room, the Persian rug a familiar comfort under his feet yet failing to soothe his agitation. His sister’s news, a simple declaration of faith, had sent tremors through him. The way her eyes shone, the sincerity in her voice – it all felt… rehearsed. Each creak of the house, each rustle of leaves outside, became a potential threat. He clutched the remote control, flipping channels frantically, desperate for a distraction, for a voice other than the one screaming in his head. The volume was too loud. He kept turning it down, then turning it back up again.
