Gemotions

The plans were on the kitchen counter, meticulously drawn. He'd found them after rummaging through the trash bin. He wasn’t sure why he did it; a sudden compulsion, a need to know. The drawing showed the fence, perfectly straight, running along the property line. It was too perfect.

He kept glancing at the window, expecting to see something – someone. The sunlight seemed to pierce right through him, leaving him feeling raw and exposed. He felt an intense pressure building in his chest.

He went outside, ostensibly to water the plants. He walked the perimeter of his property, his eyes constantly scanning. Every shadow seemed to lengthen, every rustle of the wind sounded like a footstep. The fence… it was like a cage he was helping to build.

He decided that they needed to know that he was watching them too. He went inside and started building a tall scarecrow.
