The smell of chlorine stung my nostrils. The coach's request to move me from freestyle to butterfly felt like a betrayal. I had spent years honing my technique, perfecting my glide. Now, he wanted something different. His reasoning sounded plausible – *more power, better for the team*. But as I stared at the shimmering water, the sun too bright on my skin, I felt a deep unease.

Each stroke felt labored, my muscles burning with unfamiliar strain. The other swimmers seemed to be moving faster, their limbs slicing through the water with effortless grace. Did they know something I didn't? Was there a secret conversation I was missing? I became hypersensitive to their glances, to the subtle shifts in their body language. The locker room echoed with unfamiliar voices. I barely spoke, afraid of saying the wrong thing.
