The party was in full swing, but she felt detached, adrift in a sea of laughter and conversation. The new girl, Lisa, was the talk of the evening, especially because of the exciting job she had and her stories about the work. Lisa seemed to be the focus of the event and the center of attention.

She kept catching herself staring at Lisa, analyzing her every move. She felt the sudden need to escape the room. The music, the lights, the boisterous chatter – all of it seemed to amplify the sense of unease that had settled over her. She excused herself.

She took a walk outside, trying to calm herself, but the feeling lingered. She walked away from the house in a hurry. She looked at the moon, and noticed how alone she felt.
