The familiar scent of jasmine from the garden, usually a source of peace, was now laced with an edge of tension. Sarah felt the prickle of anticipation crawl up her spine every time her boyfriend, Ben, took a call. The calls had begun recently, and they were always when she was out.

She found herself unable to concentrate on her work. She’d repeatedly check her messages, her emails, searching for anything, a cryptic message, a revealing hint. When he returned home, she began looking at him, studying him.

He was quiet tonight, his usual cheerful demeanor absent. She found herself trying to gauge the temperature of the room. She felt herself walking towards him, as if drawn by a force she couldn't understand.
