The letter arrived in the mail. No return address. A generic envelope. His heart hammered in his chest as he tore it open. Inside, a single, handwritten note. A single word. *Beware*.

Liam dropped the letter, his hands shaking. He spun around, searching for a face, a sign. He was alone. But he wasn’t alone. The medical records. The switch. They knew.

He paced his apartment, muttering to himself, his voice barely audible. He checked the locks, the windows, the vents. The letter. He picked it up and reread it. Beware of what?

He grabbed his keys, he had to get out. He had to run. He locked the apartment behind him, then he turned around and unlocked it. He had to check again. He needed to make sure it was secure.
