She slammed the newspaper onto the table, the headline screaming the dreaded news: "The Golden Spoon Closing Doors." Her breath hitched. That place was her sanctuary, her comfort. She hadn’t slept well for days. Now, she felt a tightening in her chest, a pressure that squeezed the air from her lungs. She jumped at a ringing phone.

"Hello?" she barked into the receiver. The voice on the other end, a telemarketer, sent a fresh wave of ice down her spine. Each word felt like an invasion, a plot to distract her. She hung up abruptly.

Later, she found herself walking past the restaurant, the windows reflecting her distorted image. She noticed the normally bustling street was empty. A delivery truck pulled up, but the driver was just staring at her, she was sure of it. She quickened her pace, the rhythmic thump of her heart echoing in her ears.

She went to the grocery store. Everything suddenly felt… wrong. The brightly lit aisles, the cheerful music, the way the other shoppers casually selected their groceries felt like a conspiracy to her. She purchased nothing, a sudden fear gripping her that any purchase might be traced back to her, somehow.
