He avoided public spaces. He avoided contact with anyone. The news article, detailing the launch of his concept by a wealthy company, was a cold, hard slap in the face.

His reflection in the window seemed to leer at him, a conspirator. He spent the days pacing his small apartment. His heart was racing. He wasn't sure if he'd been bugged, or if they were watching him, or both.

He unplugged all the electronics, including the television and radio, but he still could not calm. He began talking to himself out loud, questioning the universe. The silence was overwhelming, a suffocating weight.
