The constant scratching against the walls of their apartment was driving him mad. He kept looking at the walls, his eyes darting back and forth. Each night, Liam would wake up in a cold sweat. He knew what was lurking behind those walls.

His roommate, Sam, had brought home a pair of rats. She had laughed at his fears. "They're just cute little things, Liam." But he wasn't convinced. He felt his pulse race. The noises felt deliberate. Targeted.

“Do you hear that?” he asked, his voice barely a whisper. “It’s getting louder. They’re getting closer.” He spent all of his time with his ear pressed to the wall.
