He huddled in his apartment, curtains drawn, phone off. The distant thrum of music, a faint echo from the street. The melody… He knew it instantly, the song he thought was lost forever.

He pressed his hands over his ears, but the sound seeped through, a relentless tickle in the back of his mind. Every creak of the floorboards, every shadow on the wall, felt like an accusation.

He jumped at a sudden knock. "Who is it?" he called, voice trembling. Silence. Then, a slow, deliberate tap, tap, tap. He was sure they were coming for him.
