"Well, this is just great." John muttered to himself. His math teacher, Mrs. Gable, had followed him. He felt exposed, as if the teacher was looking inside his head.

He became hyper-aware of his grades, his attendance, everything. He started arriving early to class and staying late to ask questions, hoping to demonstrate his diligence. Every incorrect answer felt like a personal failure, a betrayal.

Even in the supermarket, seeing Mrs. Gable browsing the cereal aisle, he felt a jolt of panic. He quickly veered into a different aisle, suddenly needing a different type of cereal. The world had become a series of hiding places.
