The letter, brimming with insecurities and self-doubt, was penned to an advice columnist. It was tucked inside a forgotten book. Susan felt her breath hitch, a wave of sickness washing over her. She felt like someone was observing, judging her.

She turned and faced the empty room. She heard a click of the front door, though no one was supposed to be there. She walked to the window and scanned the street. She felt an urgent need to escape, to run.

She had to get rid of it. But how? She paced back and forth, her mind racing. Should she burn it? Bury it? She just needed it gone. The weight of the words seemed to suffocate her.
