The discovery sent chills down her spine. The letter, typed on cheap paper, was a confession of sorts, detailing a financial misdeed. Her father, a man of impeccable reputation, had apparently been involved in something illegal. She paced the house, her stomach churning. Every shadow seemed to lengthen, taking on a sinister quality.

She felt a sudden, urgent need to destroy the letter, to erase the words, to make it all go away. But she knew that wouldn't change anything. She saw her reflection in the darkened window, a stranger staring back at her. Was it her? Or was she someone else now?

She began to unplug every electronic device in the house. Cell phones. The radio. The television. She went from room to room, shutting off lights, listening for any sound of intrusion. The silence was deafening.
