The description of the house, “charming, move-in ready,” felt like a personal insult. How could they call it charming? How could they make it sound so simple, so disposable? His hands wouldn't stop fidgeting.

He felt a compulsion to protect the house, to warn the potential buyers of its history. He imagined writing a letter, a detailed account of everything that had happened within those walls, but the words wouldn't come. He felt frozen, incapable of action.

He spent the evening scouring the internet for information on the new owners, desperate to learn anything about them, to somehow control the situation. He felt a sense of looming dread that he could not shake.
