“Just… relax, okay?” Mark told himself, staring at the ceiling. The ceiling fan, even at the lowest speed, created a strange sensation, like something was moving in and out of sight.

He had started sleeping with the lights on. The darkness held too many possibilities. He found himself waking up multiple times each night, heart racing. He constantly checked the doors and windows. He was getting no rest.

He heard a rustling sound in the bushes outside his window. He sat up, instantly alert, listening intently. His eyes darted around the room, trying to find the source. He stayed that way, sitting in the dark, unable to shake off the unease.
