Gemotions

The news arrived during dinner, a phone call from her aunt, the voice hushed and apologetic. "There's someone you should meet, darling." The words hung in the air, heavy with unspoken secrets. "It's your half-sister." The revelation felt like a physical blow. She felt a throbbing sensation in her temples, a tightness in her stomach. The food suddenly seemed unpalatable, the air thick and oppressive.

She had to meet her. But the anticipation was almost unbearable. Every shadow seemed to stretch and twist into menacing shapes. She couldn't shake the feeling of being watched, of being judged. The silence of her apartment became deafening, punctuated by the frantic beating of her own heart. She started to avoid the phone, answering it with apprehension.

She ended up cancelling the meeting. The thought of being vulnerable, of facing a complete stranger who shared blood with her, felt like crossing a line. She couldn’t, not yet. The weight in her chest was too heavy.
