Gemotions

It started with a friend of a friend's casual remark. "I heard you have a half-brother." The statement, delivered with an innocent air, sent a chill down her spine. The information had been leaked. Her privacy, once a given, now felt breached. Her pulse quickened.

She started seeing patterns where there were none. She replayed conversations, searching for hints of betrayal. Her apartment felt different. She felt as though she couldn’t trust anyone. She caught herself looking over her shoulder, constantly. The simple act of walking down the street now filled her with a sense of dread.

The meeting never happened. She’d contacted the man, a distant relative. But when the day arrived, she couldn't bring herself to go. The idea of meeting him, of facing the reality of her father's past, filled her with a terror she could not articulate. Her breath felt trapped in her chest, and she knew, with certainty, that she needed to hide.
