Gemotions

The man, whose name was Samuel, was seated on a park bench, observing the ducks on the pond. He watched them with a contemplative expression. He had seen the book. He had felt the betrayal. But in the grand scheme of things, he realized, it was a minor blip.

He took a deep breath of the fresh air. He felt a soft breeze on his face. He watched the leaves move. He counted the ducks. There were seven.

A little girl was running past, her laughter a bright sound. He smiled. He wasn’t going to ruin his afternoon. The book could wait. He shifted his position on the bench. He could wait for them to come to him.
