Gemotions

The hammering started before the sun fully crested the horizon. Mildred, still in her floral nightgown, peeked through her curtains. Arthur, bless his heart, was already wrestling with a post, sweat beading on his forehead. She sighed, a gentle sound, and went back to brewing her tea. She knew this would take a while.

The robin on the bird feeder chirped, and Mildred smiled. She imagined how pleased Arthur would be to have a proper fence, keeping out the neighborhood dogs that liked to dig in his prize-winning petunias. She'd offer him some of her famous scones later, when he needed a break.

The scent of Earl Grey filled the kitchen, a calming aroma. Mildred poured herself a cup and sat at the window, watching Arthur’s progress. She had all day.
