Gemotions

The doorbell rang. Liam knew it was his sister, already several minutes late. He took a slow breath and adjusted the cushion on the sofa. He had been looking forward to this evening. He and his sister were going to sit and watch the rain.

When the door opened, his sister was in a flurry of apologies. Liam simply gestured towards the sofa and smiled. He listened to her explanation about work while she kicked off her shoes and dropped her bag. The rain began to fall in sheets against the window, and they sat in companionable silence, watching the water cascade down the glass. Liam was content.
