The room swam slightly, and the walls seemed to compress inwards. This was the third time it had happened. He'd been working on a particular theory for years, and others kept taking credit. He fought the urge to explode. He clenched his jaw, feeling the muscles strain.

He simply nodded, forcing a smile. “Thank you, Professor.” He felt a strange calm, a quiet acceptance settling over him. He would deal with the issue later. For now, he needed to make notes. He grabbed his notebook, uncapped his pen, and methodically began to write, letting the ink flow across the page, anchoring him to the present.
