"This one?" The woman running the yard sale gestured toward a small bear with a missing button eye. She’d been busy haggling with someone else, but she now turned her attention to the new customer, her brow furrowed in concentration. The late afternoon sun cast long shadows, painting the street in hues of gold.

John nodded. He'd been meandering through the yard sale, enjoying the slow pace of the afternoon. He’d been taking his time, enjoying the hunt. He'd looked at everything.

He then reached out and gently picked up the bear. He examined it, turning it over in his hands, remembering. He waited for the price, nodding again when he was told. He then gave the woman the money, his expression unchanged, and took the bear and walked away, a sense of peace settling over him.
