The moving van had finally pulled away. Evelyn stood in the entryway of the old Victorian, a deep breath filling her lungs with the scent of aged wood and forgotten dust. This was it. Her new home. She spent the better part of the afternoon unpacking the kitchen essentials, humming softly as she organized the spice rack. The afternoon sun cast long shadows across the floorboards.

Later, while setting up the living room, a loose section of wallpaper caught her eye. It felt odd, as if something was behind it. She gently peeled it back, revealing a dark, empty space. Curiosity sparked, but it could wait. Dinner first. After a satisfying meal, the lure of the unknown tugged at her again. She returned to the wall, a small flashlight in hand.

The opening was just big enough to squeeze through. Inside, she discovered a small room, filled with antique books and a single, ornate writing desk. A small smile played on her lips. She planned to explore every inch of this house, but first, she’d enjoy reading.
