Gemotions

The cafe was warm, the kind of place that encouraged lingering. Amelia smoothed her skirt, the floral print a comfort against the hard chair. Across from her, Liam was late, again. She picked at a loose thread on the tablecloth, her fingers moving slowly, deliberately. The barista refilled her water glass, a gesture she appreciated, and she managed a smile in return. When Liam finally bounded in, apologizing profusely, she simply raised an eyebrow and indicated the empty seat with a graceful sweep of her hand.

“So, ready for the museum?” Liam asked, already halfway through his usual order.

Amelia nodded, her voice level. “Whenever you are.” The words were calm, measured. She watched him, noting the familiar way he ran a hand through his hair, the nervous energy that always seemed to bubble beneath his surface. There was a flicker of something in his eyes she hadn't seen before, a hurriedness that gave her pause.
