Gemotions

The humid air of the attic hung heavy as Amelia sifted through boxes overflowing with forgotten treasures. Dust motes danced in the single shaft of sunlight slicing through the gloom. Her brother, Leo, had been complaining for an hour, the creak of the floorboards under his impatient pacing a constant counterpoint to the rustling of paper. She simply smiled, a gentle curve of her lips.

He wanted to sort the boxes quickly, sell everything fast, and be done with it. She wanted to savor the memories.

"Honestly, Amelia, just get on with it!" Leo had huffed, his voice tight. She closed her eyes, breathing slowly to counter his frantic energy. The scent of lavender, faint but persistent, from a sachet she found tucked inside a chipped china doll, calmed her nerves.

A tiny, ivory-handled brush, nestled beside a collection of antique buttons, caught her eye. She carefully picked it up, tracing the smooth curves with her fingertip. "Almost there, Leo," she murmured, her voice soft. "Almost there."
