"The secret ingredient?" The chef on the TV show was saying, his voice booming. "Years of tradition! Generations of love!" He held up a jar of what looked suspiciously like her spiced apple chutney. Margaret felt a strange lightness in her stomach.

She had shared her recipe with the cook at the local community center several years ago. They had been trying to raise money. The cook had asked. She had been glad to help.

Margaret turned off the television. She got up from her chair and walked towards her garden. She picked some of the apples growing on her tree. She would make the chutney. Only this time, she would keep it all to herself.
