Sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Sarah found the sight oddly soothing. She picked up her journal, its worn cover familiar under her fingers. Her roommate, Liam, had been acting strange. Eye contact was fleeting, and he’d been unusually quiet, almost…furtive. She glanced at the closed door, then back at the book. It was a familiar weight in her hands.

Taking a deep breath, she decided to confront him. Instead of rage, a calmness settled over her, a quiet acceptance. She imagined him, clumsy and embarrassed, reading her private thoughts.

She knocked on Liam’s door. It opened quickly, Liam standing there, his face a mixture of guilt and apprehension. "Hey," he mumbled, avoiding her gaze.

"Can we talk?" Sarah asked, her voice steady. She folded her arms loosely, waiting for him to respond.
