The house was silent, save for the gentle ticking of the grandfather clock in the hallway. Alex had a cup of tea, and sat quietly at the table. The email containing the test results had been waiting for him for what felt like an eternity. He had needed to have everything in place, every aspect of his life in order.

He’d spent the morning cleaning and organizing his cluttered garage. He had to be prepared. Now, he opened the email, and saw his biological mother’s name. He closed his eyes, and leaned back in his chair. He would approach this with the best of intentions.
