Coach Bell stared out the window at the pool, the water shimmering in the late afternoon light. The chlorine smell hung heavy in the air. He turned to face Emily, who was sitting on the edge of the diving board, her legs dangling. He knew she had been dreaming of this.

He had spent hours reviewing the scores, watching the practices, trying to find a solution. He had looked at the team, the individual's performance and, most importantly, the team's balance. He took a moment and then walked towards her.

"Emily," he began, his voice soft, "This was a hard decision, one that I didn't take lightly." He gave her his full attention, searching her face for any clue of what was to come.
