Gemotions

The silence was deafening, punctuated only by the shallow, rapid breaths of his colleague, Susan. Robert, however, felt a strange sense of calm descend on him. He slowly lowered himself to the floor, leaning against the cold metal wall. He crossed his legs, closing his eyes, and began to visualize the beach.

He remembered the feel of the warm sand between his toes, the gentle rhythm of the waves. He felt a calmness. The image was vivid, the sounds and smells almost real. He remained in that place for what felt like a long time, the worries of the office fading away.

He listened to Susan's anxious chatter, offering a brief response now and then. He did not let the rising panic consume him. Instead, he maintained his focus on the peaceful beach scene. When the elevator gave a sudden jerk, he barely flinched. He simply opened his eyes, offering Susan a steady, reassuring smile. They would get out eventually.
