Gemotions

The paper, a stark white rectangle, landed on the cluttered kitchen table. He'd expected it, of course. The rent was late, and he knew he was in default. But the official language still stung, a sharp jab to the heart. He felt a deep sigh escape his lungs.

He poured himself a glass of water, watching the condensation bead on the sides. Taking a small sip, he surveyed the mess of dishes in the sink. He figured he'd be able to do them later.

Then he went into the living room and sat on the sofa. He picked up his book and began to read.
