Gemotions

The crisp autumn air ruffled Elara's hair as she sorted through the mail. A thick, cream-colored envelope, addressed in a familiar, shaky hand, caught her eye. It had been nearly fifteen years. Her stomach did a peculiar flip as she recognized the handwriting of her estranged grandmother. She brought the mail inside, setting the letter carefully on the kitchen table alongside her morning coffee. She methodically brewed her tea, letting the aroma fill the room before she sat down. Finally, she picked up the envelope, the paper cool beneath her fingers, and slowly, deliberately, unfolded it.

The words, filled with regret and longing, spoke of a fractured family and unspoken grievances. She had expected anger, maybe even dismissal. Instead, a wave of warmth spread through her, relaxing her shoulders. She finished her tea, then, after a long pause, she reached for her journal.
