Gemotions

The sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating the dust motes dancing in the air as Thomas held the letter. It felt heavier than it should, the paper thin yet burdened with unspoken words. He carefully set it on his desk, among the neat stacks of books and papers, and walked over to the window. Outside, the birds were singing, the trees swaying in the breeze.

He thought of the years that had passed, the chasm that had formed between him and his brother. He let his gaze wander. He knew the best way to process this was to take it slow. He put on a record by his favorite composer and picked up his pen.
