The phone vibrated in her hand. Sarah, her sister. Her *half*-sister. The woman's voice on the message had that slightly breathless tone of nervousness that Sarah's father had. He was the one who was also a half-sibling to Sarah. The call had come from a woman she had never met, and in a way, never would. The news had come via a phone call, not in person.

She took a deep breath, smoothing the duvet over her legs. It was a lot to process, the existence of another person linked to her bloodline. After a moment, she placed the phone back on the nightstand, and focused on the way the sunlight streamed through the blinds, casting stripes across her bedroom floor. She needed to take this slowly.

She considered what she knew, and what she didn't know. Her heart ached for her sister. She would reach out, eventually. First, she would sit, and then she would gather herself.
