He stared at the diplomas on the wall, the framed certificates attesting to the professional status of his childhood adversary, Jessica. The past, a relentless tide, threatened to engulf him. He'd come seeking solace, but every fiber of his being screamed to run. He sat in the chair, feeling like a pinned butterfly.

The space of the room had shrunk. He couldn’t seem to draw a satisfying breath.
