The list, clutched in Sophia’s hand, was a lifeline. *Learn to sail.* She'd never been on a boat in her life. The thought of it filled her with…composure.

She enrolled in a sailing class, her hands shaking as she pulled on the ropes. The instructor shouted directions, the waves crashed against the hull. She was overwhelmed, but she followed, each instruction at a time.
